Firefighters have attended a ‘small fire’ at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
Four fire crews and an aerial ladder appliance responded to reports of the incident shortly before 3pm this afternoon (Wednesday).
A ‘small fire’ within the lift motor room was found – and confirmed to be out on arrival.
“Crews isolated the electrics to the room and one crew has remained in attendance to monitor the situation”, a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
While the hospital wasn’t evacuated in full, some patients and visitors were evacuated from areas on the fourth floor – where the fire happened.
Entrances to the hospital were also closed to prevent anyone else entering the building.
“The fire service has now stood down the incident after deeming the environment safe, and all patients are being returned to clinical areas”, a spokesperson for the Great Western Hospital said.
Adding: “Thank you to all staff for their prompt and efficient response to the incident.”
