A man has been jailed after raping a teenage girl in a Chippenham park.
20-year-old Ethan Baily was found guilty of the offence at Swindon Crown Court last year, and returned for sentencing on 14 February.
The defendant, of Hill Rise, was 17 years old when he launched a sex attack on the girl – who was 14 years old – on a footpath in Monkton Park on 14 October 2021.
He was jailed for four years and must register as a sex offender for life. A indefinite restraining order was also imposed, prohibiting future contact with the victim.
Detective Constable Sam Long said: “This was a cowardly and despicable act committed against a young, vulnerable teenage girl. She was violated in the worst possibly way and was unable to defend herself.
“The victim displayed enormous courage and resilience, which led to Ethan Baily’s successful conviction by a unanimous jury. Baily showed no remorse for his actions during the court case.
“I hope today’s sentencing sends out a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated, victims will be supported, and offenders will be brought to justice.
“I’d urge anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to report it to us. We will help you and continue to put perpetrators before the courts.”
