UPDATE: Driver hospitalised after smashing car through Nationwide’s window
A car has ploughed through the front of Nationwide bank in Trowbridge.
Emergency services were called to the crash in Castle Street at around 2pm this afternoon (Friday).
A silver Honda Jazz careered into the building through a front window.
It’s not yet clear if the vehicle was driving into the property deliberately, or whether anyone’s been injured.
The bank is understood to have been evacuated over structural concerns – and police have taped off the entire road.
On scene, the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service incident commander told Wiltshire 999s that they are waiting for the building’s electrics to be isolated.
Once done, firefighters will be able to make the vehicle safe and hand over to Wiltshire Police. A structural engineer – believed to be from Wiltshire Council – is en route.
