A one-year-old boy has suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on the A303.
Three air ambulances were scrambled following a three-vehicle road traffic collision just east of Amesbury at around 5.30pm on Friday afternoon (28 March).
Wiltshire Police say that a grey Skoda Karoq has joined the A303 eastbound at the Amesbury Road junction and has collided with a white Peugeot 208 travelling in the same direction.
This has caused the Peugeot to spin onto the westbound carriageway through the gap in the barriers for the Allington Track, colliding head on with a silver Volvo V70 travelling in the opposite direction.
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance attended the incident alongside local ambulance crews.
The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 20s, suffered injuries which are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
A passenger in the Peugeot, a one-year-old boy, suffered life-threatening injuries.
Another passenger in the Peugeot, a five-year-old boy, suffered injuries which are not thought to be life-changing.
The driver of the Volvo, a man in his 70s, suffered reportedly minor injuries.
Two of the casualties were reportedly airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital.
The road was closed in both directions to allow for forensic collision investigation work and vehicle recovery to take place.
The eastbound carriageway has since reopened and the westbound carriageway is due to reopen shortly, following road surface repairs.
