‘Council funds are being wasted’ on a sign swap prank in Bradford on Avon.
This morning (Monday), locals woke to find the town’s sign in Holt Road had been replaced with one welcoming people to the Jurassic Coast.
The Bradford on Avon sign was pictured attached to a ‘Welcome to the Isle and Royal Manor of Portland’ sign – 80 miles away in Dorset.
Last Friday (21 March) the same sign was replaced with one belonging to Camerton, in Somerset.
As a result, Wiltshire Council and Bradford on Avon Town Council are forced to spend public funds on removing the incorrect signs and tracking down the original property.

Wiltshire Police has since been informed of the incidents, and is said to be investigating.
Parvis Khansari, Wiltshire Council’s corporate director of place, said, “There have been several similar recent instances where a sign has been swapped for a sign plate from outside of the county.
“We are working with our neighbouring authorities to swap the signs back, but this is an unnecessary use of both time and money that could be better spent on providing a service to the public.
“We have reported all instances of this sign swapping to the police for further investigation.”
