Thousands of ‘dangerous’ prescription drugs may hit Wiltshire’s streets after a burglary.

Offenders broke into Lloyds Pharmacy in Shaw Village Centre, Swindon, in the early hours of yesterday morning (9 November).

Expensive perfumes and other costly goods were ignored while the offenders bagged up hundreds of packets of pills from the dispensary.

The store was cordoned off as a crime scene for most of the day, with ‘do not cross’ tape outside – from pillar to pillar.

The suspects forced their way into the store via a glass panel in the front door using a hammer before stealing the medicines and fleeing the scene within 15 minutes.

Wiltshire Police attended the incident and later sent a crime scene investigator to collect evidence.

‘One suspect entered and when straight to the dispensary. He took medication and gave it to two others waiting outside the store’, a source told Wiltshire 999s.

They added: ‘There are now lots of dangerous drugs on our streets.’

The cost to Lloyds Pharmacy is believed to be in the thousands – with damage to property and goods, and the loss of medicines.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We are carrying out enquiries after a burglary at a pharmacy in Shaw Village Centre.

“It happened shortly before 2.30am yesterday morning (9 November) and a quantity of prescription drugs were stolen.

“We are carrying out a full investigation and would ask anyone with information to call us on 101, quoting crime reference 54210109136. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
