50 firefighters have tackled a thatched cottage blaze on the Wiltshire border.
Emergency services were called to the property in the village of Quarley, located about seven miles east of Amesbury, at around 5pm on Friday (14 March).
The roof was found well alight, with firefighters battling the fire overnight and into this morning (Saturday).
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service crews attended alongside Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIOWFRS).
In a statement yesterday, a spokesperson for HIOWFRS said: “We were called to a thatched property fire in Quarley shortly after 5pm on Friday 14 March. The incident is still ongoing.
“Residents have been safely evacuated, but the property is fully affected by fire. At the height of the incident, over 50 firefighters were on the scene, with Dorset and Wiltshire crews also in attendance.
“As of 9pm, our presence has been scaled back, but 7 fire engines and additional support vehicles remain on scene as we continue to tackle the fire.”
