Two dogs have been removed from the scene of a murder in a village near Devizes.
Detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man at a home in Strawberry Fields, Easterton – which took place at around 8pm yesterday (Tuesday, 2 July).
Police and paramedics battled to save to life of the victim, aged in his 40s, but were unsuccessful. A woman, aged in her 50s, is being held on suspicion of murder.
Forensics have spent today (Wednesday) photographing the scene and gathering key evidence as the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) work to establish the full circumstances.
At around 3pm, two dogs were removed from the house. It’s thought the pets will be taken to kennels to be looked after until alternitive arrangements are made.
This morning, six MCIT staff – including detectives – attended to assess the area ahead of CSI. At 12.15pm, three forensic investigators suited up in white overalls and entered a house in the street.
A mobile welfare van with ‘forensics’ written on the side was well stocked with bottled water as the specialist team battled the heat to comb the property for vital evidence.
A local resident, who was attending the Easterton Village Hall coffee morning but didn’t want to be named, told of how very little happens in the village – and you rarely see police.
“I can’t believe it, in our little village, where nothing happens. Usually it’s so quiet here, nothing ever happens.
Adding: “I’m sad somebody lost their life, my prays go out to their family.
“It’s the new builds so most people keep themselves to themselves up there, don’t venture into the village as much as us oldies – who have lived here for donkey’s years, 35 years I think now.”
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an incident at an address in Easterton, near Devizes.
“Officers were called to the address shortly after 8pm on Tuesday evening (2/7) following a report that a man had sustained stab wounds.
“The man, who is aged in his 40s, died at the scene.
“A woman in her 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Melksham custody for questioning.”
They added: “Both individuals are believed to be known to each other and we would like to reassure residents that we do not believe there to be a wider risk to the public.
“There will be a police presence in the area overnight while our investigation continues.
