A large crime scene is in place alongside a secondary school in Tadpole Garden Village after police arrested two men in the area.

Police have been guarding a footpath on the Swindon housing estate ever since armed officers moved in on a property there at around 1pm yesterday (22 September).

The manned cordon is directly behind Horta Close, where two men – aged 23 and 25 – were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Police swooped on the arrested after officers responded to reports of a disorder in the Moredon area the day before, on Tuesday 12 September.

Officers remained on scene overnight, where it’s believed searches have been ongoing. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is also reported to have been in attendance.

Floodlights have also been installed and were turned on during the night.

In a statement released by Wiltshire Police, a spokesperson wrote: “Enquiries are ongoing in north Swindon today following the arrest of two men yesterday.

“People living in the Tadpole Village area will have seen a police presence in and around Horta Close overnight and this will continue throughout today.

“There is also police activity ongoing in the William Morris Way area.

“Two men arrested yesterday on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence remain in police custody.

“We want to reassure the local community that there is no risk to the public and they should not be alarmed by the police presence.”
