A police investigation was launched this morning following the discovery of a significant amount of blood at a Malmesbury beauty spot in the early hours.

Police were informed of the find at Daniel’s Well by a local resident at around 1.40am, but the area was not cordoned off until late morning when two PCSOs arrived. Detectives from CID attended the gruesome scene at around midday.

A large amount of blood could be seen at Daniel’s Well sparking a police probe

Wiltshire 999s has learnt that a teenage girl suffered a slice wound to her foot as a result of standing on some broken glass at around 10.30pm, subsequently losing a large amount of blood.

The girl was rushed to Great Western Hospital in Swindon. On arrival at Accident and Emergency, she lost consciousness in the car park as blood poured from her foot.

A local called police after finding a trail of dried blood from Daniel’s Well to The Maltings

In a statement released to Wiltshire 999s this morning, Wiltshire Police were confident that no crime had been committed but it was clear by midday that an investigation was taking place.

A force spokesperson said: “At around 1.40am this morning (22/07) we received a call from a member of the public who was concerned about a quantity of blood on the ground at Daniel’s Well in Malmesbury.

“Officers attended and carried out a thorough search of the area, as well as contacting the ambulance service and local hospitals to see if they had treated anyone with injuries.

“At this stage there is no suggestion that a crime has been committed, but rather someone has suffered an accidental injury and sought their own medical assistance.”
